In the hills of Yagara and Turrbal Country, where ancient marker trees once guided communities, BRIQ emerges as a meeting point for different knowledge systems.

Long before Brisbane’s streets were drawn, ‘Boggo’ was a site of healing wisdom and gathering—a heritage we proudly acknowledge as we create new beginnings. BRIQ will be a safe and welcoming place for all, recognising that First Nations communities were the original doctors, scientists and innovators on this continent.

Working closely with Elders, we are embedding First Nations perspectives into BRIQ’s design, research approach and governance—creating an inclusive space where Indigenous thinking guides sustainable solutions and celebrates Queensland’s living heritage.

This is our opportunity to learn from the oldest continuous culture in the world to work towards true reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Through mutual understanding and respect, we are creating new shared histories together as we stride towards an equitable society where we can reconnect with Country and learn from each other without prejudice.

"Our ancestors were the first scientists of this land. When we bring traditional knowledge to modern challenges, we honour their legacy while creating new opportunities for our young people."
